New York and Maine have both vetoed gay marriage this year. I am so fortunate to live in Massachusetts where it’s legal and accepted, but let me break this down.

To any person who thinks that gay couples should not get married: fuck you. Who are you to decide that my love is not worthy of the title of “marriage”. Who are you to decide that your religious convictions should be imposed on my life?

Do people seriously think hard about life anymore? To any Christian, Jew, Muslim, etc radical who preaches opposition to gay marriage, take into consideration the fact that those are your beliefs and imposing them upon society as a whole is a breach in separation of church and state. I, along with many people worldwide, am an Athiest, which means your god does not exist to me. Why should what you believe decide how I can run my life?

Heterosexual marriages in the United States are granted in all 50 states and are given over 1000 benefits that homosexual marriages granted in only 5 states are given because of the Defense of Marriage Act, which deems federally granted marriages illegal on the national level. For a nation built upon life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, denying these over 1000 rights to gay marriages where it is performed legally also denies the couples these three rights.

Why should it be up to a single person or group to decide what is morally correct for our nation? To be completely frank, this “right” shouldn’t even be up for a vote, period. It should just be. How people can conscientiously allow themselves to think it is immoral is beyond my belief. Gay people do not choose to be gay, just as black people do not choose to be black and deaf people don’t choose to be deaf and people with down syndrone to choose to have down syndrome. You don’t create laws illegalizing the marriage of blacks, deafs, or the special needs. These couples aren’t harming the “sanctity” of your marriage. You are, by denying our diverse culture to share the same benefits that you do.

Those who say that gay marriages are unsafe for children to grow up in, you are also wrong. Many who oppose gay marriages and the gay lifestyle as a whole believe that gay parents will in fact nurture their children into being gay and teach them to be religious heretics. My straight parents raised me, and I’m gay. Your theory is bogus.

The entire world laughs at Americans because we our egos have exceeded ourselves. We claim to be a united nation that supports equality and diversity, but look at us. We’re trillions of dollars in debt, we’re fighting wars we can’t win, and we can’t even grant the millions of gay citizens in our country the same, equal rights granted to the murderers, abusers, molesters, and morally corrupt citizens who effect our neighbors, family, and friends with tragedy.

My mom laughed at me yesterday when I told her I want to move Europe so I can get married and be accepted (she is against gay marriage). My mom and dad lied to the Catholic church about my dad’s religion (Greek Orthodox) so they could get married. What kind of sanctity are you trying to hold on to?
